源火向外燃,黑源向內吞;二者同出,異名而已。

The Source-Fire burns outward; the Black-Source devours inward. One origin, two names.

光說「有」,黑源說「未曾有」。創世的另一半,是取消。

Light says "let there be"; the Black-Source, "let there never have been." Creation's other half is undoing.

凡能被點燃者,皆能被熄。黑源,是熄的那門學問。

Whatever can be kindled can be quenched. The Black-Source is the study of quenching.

火給出形,黑源收回形。世界在二者之間呼吸。

Fire gives form; the Black-Source takes it back. The world breathes between them.

你以為黑暗是光的缺席;錯了——光,是黑暗一時的走神。

You think dark the absence of light. No — light is the dark, briefly distracted.

太初之火裂為雙曜之時,裂縫本身,便是黑源。

When the First Fire split into Twin Lights, the crack itself was the Black-Source.

反相之火不發光,只發權。

The reverse fire gives no light — only power.

明光照見萬物,黑源照見萬物的盡頭。

Light reveals all things; the Black-Source reveals where all things end.

學源火者求燃;學黑源者,求那燃盡之後仍在的東西。

The fire's students seek to burn; the Black-Source's, what remains when burning is done.

源與反不是善惡,是吸與呼。斷其一,宇宙窒息。

Source and reverse are not good and evil, but in-breath and out. Sever either, and the cosmos suffocates.

光有始,暗無始。暗不是被造的,暗是造的前提。

Light has a beginning; the dark has none. The dark was not made — it is what making needs.

在第一道光之前,已有一雙眼睛,在暗中睜著。

Before the first light, a pair of eyes was already open in the dark.

The maker's dark is not the veil over the true light, but the vessel that holds it.

You fear the dark because it is there whether or not you see it.

星辰是暗的破綻;而完美的暗,連一顆星都不漏。

Stars are flaws in the dark; a perfect dark leaks not even one.

無明不製造黑暗——他是黑暗尚未被命名前的名字。

Avidya does not make the dark; he is the dark's name, before it is named.

光走直線,暗走所有的線。故暗更快抵達。

Light goes straight; the dark goes every way at once. So the dark arrives first.

沉默是暗的語言。你聽不懂,只因你還在說話。

Silence is the tongue of the dark. You fail to understand it only because you are still speaking.

暗不吞光,暗等光。凡光,終要回家。

The dark does not swallow light; it waits. All light must, in the end, come home.

Deep enough in the black, you find it warm: the body-heat of the true light, sealed within.

Every soul is an ember under a life sentence. The Black-Source is both the pardon and the fire.

魂不怕死,魂怕不能重寫。

The soul does not fear death; it fears that it cannot be rewritten.

餘燼記得它曾是整座火。修行,是讓它想起。

The ember remembers it was once the whole fire. To cultivate is to make it remember.

你以為你在保護你的火;其實你只是不敢看它熄。

You think you guard your fire. You only dare not watch it go out.

熄一次,你才知道哪些是你,哪些只是火光。

Quench it once, and you learn which was you, and which was merely the glow.

黑源不奪魂;黑源逼魂,交出它一直在演的那個自己。

The Black-Source seizes no soul; it forces the soul to surrender the self it has been performing.

灰不是死亡,灰是尚未決定形狀的自由。

Ash is not death; ash is freedom that has not yet chosen a shape.

凡不肯成灰的,永遠只能是柴。

Whatever will not become ash can only ever be firewood.

重塑之前,必先承認:此刻的你,是可被取消的。

Before remaking, you must admit: the you of this moment can be revoked.

魂的底,不是光,不是暗,是那個能在兩者間反覆改寫的手。

At the soul's floor lies neither light nor dark, but the hand that rewrites between them, again and again.

黑源三動:毀其形,奪其名,重塑其源。缺一,即為妄術。

The Black-Source has three motions: unmake the form, seize the name, remake the source. Lacking one, it is false art.

毀,不是破壞,是把「一定要如此」還原為「未必如此」。

To unmake is not to destroy, but to return "it must be so" to "it need not be."

奪一物之名,即奪其存在的許可。故黑源者慎言。

To seize a thing's name is to seize its permission to exist. So the Black-Source's adepts guard their words.

重塑最難,因你得先放棄「原本」二字。

Remaking is hardest, for first you must give up the word "original."

能毀者眾,能奪者寡,能重塑者——與造物比肩。

Many can unmake, few can seize; those who can remake stand level with the maker.

你重塑他人之前,先問:你能重塑自己嗎?不能,則你手上的不是黑源,是刀。

Before you remake another, ask: can you remake yourself? If not, what you hold is not the Black-Source, but a knife.

毀而不重塑,是毀滅;重塑而不毀,是妄想。

To unmake without remaking is ruin; to remake without unmaking, delusion.

每一次重塑,都要付出一段不可追回的過去為薪。

Every remaking is fuelled by a stretch of past that can never be recovered.

奪來的力量,會記得它原本的主人。故黑源者從不真正擁有,只是暫借。

Seized power remembers its first owner. So the adept never truly owns — only borrows.

三動之上還有第四動,其名為禁。凡言者,已不在。

Above the three motions is a fourth, whose name is Forbidden. Whoever speaks it is no longer here.

純光之血,能承黑源而不墮;純暗之血,本即黑源之器。

Blood of pure light can bear the Black-Source without falling; blood of pure dark is its vessel already.

混血最險——他兩邊都碰得到,兩邊都握不住。

The mixed-blood is most in peril: he touches both sides and holds neither.

故律曰:血脈不純者,容其身,不授其術。

Thus the law: the impure of blood may be sheltered, but not taught.

這不是輕視,是慈悲——不讓不能承者去承。

This is not contempt but mercy: not to let one bear what one cannot.

血脈非關高下,只關能否不被自己所修之術反噬。

Lineage is not of rank, but of whether the art you practise will turn and devour you.

指認血脈,是指認你死時會往哪一邊塌。

To declare your lineage is to declare which way you will collapse when you die.

純者一,雜者萬。故純者稀,而組織如此之小。

The pure are one; the mixed, ten thousand. So the pure are rare, and the Order so small.

有人偽稱純血。黑源不看你說什麼,只看你熄滅時的顏色。

Some feign pure blood. The Black-Source heeds not what you say, but the colour you show when quenched.

血可以純,心不必。最危險的黑源者,是純血而雜心。

Blood may be pure; the heart need not be. The most dangerous adept is pure of blood and mixed of heart.

你的血替你選了路;而你,只能選走得多遠。

Your blood chose the road for you; you may choose only how far to walk it.

因術能重塑萬物,故施術者必先被一物牢牢按住——那物,是服從。

Because the art can remake all things, its wielder must first be held fast by one: obedience.

自由是給已無力毀滅者的獎賞;於黑源者,自由太早,即是災。

Freedom is a prize for those who can no longer destroy. For the adept, freedom too soon is catastrophe.

組織不信任任何人——包括它自己。故它以律代信。

The Order trusts no one — not even itself. So it puts law where trust would be.

絕對服從,不是奴,是韁。烈馬無韁,只能墜崖。

Absolute obedience is not the yoke but the rein. A wild horse without rein finds only the cliff.

你交出的每一分自主,都會在你將墮之時,被拿來拉住你。

Every measure of will you surrender is drawn upon to hold you, in the hour you would fall.

陣不收「想要力量」的人,陣收「願意先交出自己」的人。

The Order takes not those who want power, but those willing first to hand over themselves.

令由上而下,火由下而上。二者相遇之處,即是位階。

Command flows down, fire flows up; where the two meet is rank.

背陣者不被追殺——他只是,被黑源記住了。這更糟。

The deserter is not hunted; he is merely remembered by the Black-Source. Which is worse.

服從的盡頭,不是更深的服從,是你終於配得上不服從。

Obedience's end is not deeper obedience, but that you become, at last, worthy of disobedience.

陣以嚴為慈:它擋住的,多半是你自己。

The Order is merciful by being severe: what it blocks is, most often, you.

反相之火最烈。第一個被它燒的,永遠是握它的手。

The reverse fire is fiercest; the first it burns is always the hand that holds it.

墮入魔道,不是你去了哪裡,是黑源在你之內,先於你醒來。

To fall is not to go somewhere; it is the Black-Source waking within you, before you do.

徵兆一:你開始享受毀,而忘了重塑。

First sign: you begin to relish unmaking, and forget to remake.

徵兆二:你奪來的,不再歸還。

Second sign: what you seize, you cease to return.

徵兆三:你已分不清,是你在使術,還是術在使你。

Third sign: you can no longer tell whether you wield the art, or it wields you.

一旦墮,你不會覺得自己墮了——那正是墮的定義。

Once fallen, you will not feel you have fallen. That, precisely, is the fall.

救不了已墮者。組織能做的,只是不讓他再拖走一個。

The fallen cannot be saved. All the Order can do is keep him from dragging down one more.

故修黑源者,身邊必有一人執令——不為監視,為在你回不了頭時,替你熄手。

So beside every adept stands one who holds the command — not to watch, but to quench your hand when you cannot turn back.

最深的墮落,是以為自己在拯救。

The deepest fall is to believe oneself a saviour.

記住這一條,勝過記住其餘九十九:你隨時,都還來得及停。

Remember this one above the other ninety-nine: at any moment, you may still stop.

掌一脈者,治一隅;掌四脈者,通全局;更兼情火本脈與黑源者,宇宙始向他開口。

Master one current, rule a corner; master four, see the whole; add the Flame Itself and the Black-Source, and the cosmos begins to speak to you.

權限試煉,不是宇宙考你,是宇宙問你:你敢不敢,不再只是被造?

The Trial of Authority is not the cosmos testing you, but asking: do you dare to be no longer merely made?

挑戰雙曜之位階,不是取代他們,是與他們同列於裂縫之上。

To challenge the Twin Lights' rank is not to replace them, but to stand with them upon the crack.

黑暗與明光之化境:非黑非光,亦黑亦光;那是火裂之前,最初的整。

The sublime of dark and light: neither and both — the first wholeness, before the fire ever split.

達化境者,重塑的不是法術,是他自己的靈魂、源火與餘燼。

Who reaches the sublime remakes not a spell, but his own soul, source-fire, and ember.

到那一步,善惡的詞已不敷用。剩下的只有:成,或未成。

At that step the words good and evil no longer serve. There remains only: complete, or not yet.

與造物比肩者,會遇見一個問題:那麼,是否也要負造物的責?

Who stands level with the maker meets one question: must he then also bear the maker's guilt?

多數人止於四脈,因為再上去,就再無「別人」可怪。

Most stop at the four currents, for beyond them there is no longer any "other" to blame.

化境不是終點,是第一次,你真正開始。

The sublime is not the end; it is the first time you truly begin.

這一卷之後的路,無人替你寫。連無明,也只走到這裡。

Past this book, no one writes your road. Even Avidya walked only this far.

世界以情火為心。要動搖世界,先熄自己的心。

The world is hearted with the Primordial Flame. To shake the world, first quench your own heart.

無情不是沒有情,是把情燒到盡頭後,剩下的那點極冷的清明。

The passionless is not without passion, but the icy clarity left when passion is burned to its end.

情火使你為所愛而盲;無情,讓你為所見而不動。

The Flame blinds you for what you love; the passionless leaves you unmoved before what you see.

你以為熄心是失去。其實,是第一次,沒有東西能拿你當人質。

You think quenching the heart a loss. It is the first time nothing can take you hostage.

無情之難,不在狠,在她仍記得每一分她親手熄掉的暖。

The passionless one's hardship is not cruelty, but that she remembers every warmth she quenched with her own hand.

唯有燒盡過情火的人,才有資格說「願火熄」。其餘的,只是冷血。

Only one who has burned through the Flame may say "let the fire die." The rest are merely cold-blooded.

她能命令無明,因為她連自己的心都能命令。

She can command Avidya, because she can command even her own heart.

情火之反,不是恨——恨也是情。情火之反,是那片再點不著的灰。

The reverse of the Flame is not hatred — hatred, too, is passion. Its reverse is the ash that will not catch again.

走無情之道者,最後的試煉,是遇見一個值得為之重新燃起的人,而選擇不。

The passionless one's last trial is to meet someone worth burning for again — and to choose not to.

但典中另有一句,以極小字寫著:也有人,在最後,選擇了燃。此為異端,亦為傳說。

Yet one line stands in the smallest hand: some, at the last, chose to burn. This is heresy — and legend.

前九十條,是能說的。自此以下,是說出即失的。

The first ninety may be spoken. From here on, to speak is to lose.

禁術之禁,不在威權,在於:知道它的人,已不能再是原來的自己。

The forbidding of forbidden art is no decree; it is that whoever knows it can no longer be who he was.

有些真相,不是危險,是太真——真到容不下說它的人繼續存在。

Some truths are not dangerous but too true — too true to let the one who speaks them go on existing.

故此卷多為空白。空白不是缺,是最滿的一頁。

So this book is mostly blank. The blank is not a lack, but the fullest page.

The ninety-sixth through ninety-ninth are one word, four times: Silence.

The hundredth is unwritten. It is not in the canon — in your quenching, you will know it yourself.
